Bangladesh is urbanizing fast. In the 2021-22 fiscal year, the sector saw a significant year-on-year growth of 50.4% to $796 Million from $529 Million in the 2019-2020 fiscal, which was also when the government declared light engineering goods as "Product of the Year". The country is quickly moving to a high-value, knowledge-intensive society. According to a report titled “Marketing Strategy for Emerging LED Product in Lighting Industry of Bangladesh,” LED lights dominated 29 per cent market of the bulb sector in 2016, and in the year 2022 this more than doubled to 60%. Despite the Global Economic Challenges, the Light Sector of Bangladesh exported $529 million in Fiscal Year 2021 – a big jump from $292.92 million which was during the 2020 pandemic Fiscal Year. Investing in the Lighting Sector of Bangladesh is currently a great option because the Government of Bangladesh has announced an investment of Tk100 crore through government-funded venture capital – Startup Bangladesh Limited – which includes many SME Light Manufacturing Companies.
